Breaking- Adhesivity of Cationic Emulsions

Principle

Determination of the breaking behavior and adhesiveness of cationic emulsions of bitumen with a granulate of 2-4 mm.

This method applies to emulsions used for coating applications and can be used for formulation and control of production. Given amounts of emulsion and granulate are mixed under specified conditions.

The time required to agglomerate the granulate into a compact mass is a measure of the break time of the emulsion. After 5 minutes ± 15 seconds, the final mixture is washed with water and the percentage of the aggregate surface covered with the binder is evaluated visually. This percentage is a measure of the immediate adhesiveness of the emulsion with the granulate.
