Penetration Power of Bitumen emulsions

Determination of penetration power of bituminous emulsions.

This test applies to impregnation emulsions whose main function is to stabilize a so-called closed support. The low viscosity and fine particle size of these emulsions are essential characteristics for the success of the technique. A specified amount of emulsion is poured onto reference fines into a sintered glass column device. The time taken for the emulsion to percolate through the fines is measured.

The reference fines can be replaced by a soil sample from the site.

The EN 12849 standard describes a procedure consisting of mixing 50g of silica sand F34 and 50g of fine siliceous 315-001 to make a single mixture of these two elements for the test with the bitumen emulsion.
